Yes, that's right - sex, drugs, peace and love were all the rage. And so were some mighty cool toys, as any child of the 60's can tell you.

Let's start today with one of my favs. This was late 60's, out in 68 or 69. They were called Amaze-a-matics, the 'car with a brain'. I still have two from my youth, but I'll still other people's photos cuz I'm lazy:

The concept was simple, but genious. They had plastic 'cards' that you inserted in the undercarriage. A motor that turned the wheels also pulled the card through the undercarriage. The card had the edges cut, so that it would turn the wheels left and right at certain times. Viola - it would run a course in a completely pre-programmed manner! It also came with blank cards you could cut yourself to make your own courses.

Nifty fun...more psychedelic stuff tomorrow.

I remember those. Bizarre technology! The pics on the boxes look like Speed Racer cars.

Cool!

That's a great idea and yet it's so simple... I love that!

I had one of those! I remember those cards, but mine was this real futuristic blue and black one.
I was a car nut and these were just pre radio control, so I was thrilled with mine

There are some of these on eBay going for $9-$35. I may have to break down and bid. I'm totally nuts.
